TANSMSE Season 1 DVD Cover

This is the DVD cover for the first season of my 21st-century Mario cartoon concept, The All-New Super Mario Super Extravaganza! A previous version of this cover was made in 2014, but it looked weird, wacky and off-model, and when I said I’d finalized all the character designs, I realized I had lied: I still had a long way to go, and many character designs were still grossly unfaithful to the games, with a number of deviations from the original video game designs which I have since remedied. This remake is the finalized, official version of the cover; the older version is being kept solely for historical purposes.

I chose to steer away from the original design of the cover in order to represent the finalized TANSMSE, which has a lot more content parallel to the games than the original concept for the show. The new design has the assembled cast divided between the bad guys (on the left) and the good guys (on the right), in front of backgrounds depicting parts of the castles of their respective kingdoms, separated by Mario who is the focal point of the illustration. I also changed the image on the back cover to Mario in his normal attire, riding Yoshi, with a “globe” background based on the Japanese Super Mario World box art.
